The Cocoon Insulation service will be closing on 30th September 2012 to be replaced by a new Green Deal service in the New Year.
From 1st October 2012 the new Green Deal and ECO (Energy Company Obligation) framework will come into force, which we see as a great opportunity to vastly increase the number of energy efficiency measures installed in the UK housing stock.
Cocoon has been operating since 2005 providing access to subsided loft and cavity wall insulation for homeowners and private tenants. Cocoon’s insulation prices were made possible using CERT funding. As the CERT mechanism is drawing to a close we are concentrating our efforts on developing a new Green Deal Community Interest Company alongside a number of partners.
CERT officially closes on 31st December 2012 but referrals to our installers will end on 30th September 2012 to enable all installations to take place and be reported back to OFGEM in good time. This means customers have until midnight on 30th September to register their interest in free insulation.
Watch out for more details on our new Green Deal service, which we are developing with our Local Authority partners. We will be launching in early 2013 when the sale of Green Deal plans to domestic customers becomes legal. Meanwhile, USEA will also continue to work with our partners to access ECO funding through our Affordable Warmth Networks.
We are very proud of what we have achieved with Cocoon over the past 7 years. Over 30,000 households have been insulated through the service since it began. We would like to thank all our partners, customers, installers and supporters for all their help in making the service such a success.
